Buy Glass – Reuse Glass – Reduce Plastic

glass jars
We’re buying more of our foods in glass jars rather than plastic bottles. We then use the empty jars to store leftovers – reducing our need for plastic cling film and plastic food bags which would end up in the bin!

You can even pop the jars in the freezer, so it saves on plastic freezer bags too, just be sure to leave an inch from the top for the contents to expand.

Greener in an Instant! A Simple Choice at the Supermarket

detergent

According to WWF the amount of plastic that enters our oceans every year is equivalent to a rubbish truck dumping a full load into the water EVERY MINUTE!

We’re making simple changes to cut down on our plastic use. Most brands of laundry detergent offer a liquid and powder. We choose the powder as it comes in a cardboard box not a plastic container!

Choose Glass Over Plastic for Your Condiments

Did you know that the squeezy plastic ketchup bottle you throw into the recycling bin will not come back as another plastic bottle?

Plastic has to be ‘down-cycled’ which means that it loses quality and can only be recycled into a lesser product. Your plastic will quickly end up unrecyclable and in landfill, or worse still our oceans.

We’re now buying all our ketchup, mayonnaise, brown sauce etc. in a glass bottle, that bottle can be recycled to make another glass bottle over and over and over…indefinitely!

Sadly recycling plastic is not a solution, only using less plastic will solve this world’s plastic problem.

Banish these Bad-Boys from the Bathroom!

shave-273116_1280

Since my early teens I’ve been using disposable razors. Now in my thirties I can’t help but think about that huge pile of plastic and metal I’ve sent to landfill. It’s just been my routine to pick up a pack from the supermarket, perhaps in part it’s because my mum always had them in the bathroom cupboard when I was growing up.

Breaking this environmentally unfriendly habit has felt even more rewarding than most of our other small green changes around the home. From now on it’s just a reusable handle and refillable blade for me. Such a simple change, with no sacrifice on my part, it’s just breaking a habit that I should have broken a long time ago!

Shower Gel to Soap – We’ve Made the Switch

soap3

Ever thought how many plastic shower gel bottles go into your bin each year? Most can’t be reused, refilled or 100% recycled because of their plastic caps and plastic hooks.

I’m proud to say we’ve made the switch – start the day a better way and switch to soap!
There really is a soap for every skin type, with every texture, scent and added natural ingredient imaginable!

BONUS: When choosing our soap we went for something minimally packaged in 100% recyclable card, but you can even find some sold without any packaging at all.
